Our theme for the October competition was “The Elements”. The submission process and competition for the artists began in the middle of September and concluded on October 29, 2011. We received 473 entries from 12 different countries from around the world, including the United Kingdom, France, Canada, Netherlands, Australia, Italy, Ireland, Austria, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Croatia. In addition, we had entries from 29 different states. We received a broad selection acrylic, watercolor, oil, digital, photography, pencil, dye on silk, mixed media, and ink art and we tried to include these different media in this exhibition.
Due to the volume and the quality of the entries received this month we also included 65 artists who were also chosen for Special Recognition. The artists in this group could have easily been included in the upper tier of our winners, as their art was also exceptional. In addition, most of the artists who were not chosen could have easily received Special Recognition awards, as their art was also outstanding. We want to thank everyone for participating in this art competition. Just because your art was not selected is not a reflection on your artistic talents and skill. It takes a lot of courage and nerve to enter and expose yourself to this type of competition and you should be applauded for your efforts. Please do not give up entering online and offline art competitions and calls for art, as your art could have easily been chosen here too.
All winners will now be featured on the Light Space & Time website for the month of November 2011 and thereafter, the artworks and links to the artist’s websites will remain online in the Light Space & Time Archives. 3rd Place – Jeffrey Rennicke – “Dreams of the Morning”

Jeff Rennicke is a nationally-known writer and photographer whose work has appeared in National Geographic Traveler, Reader’s Digest, Backpacker and more. He is also a frequent lecturer for the National Geographic Society’s Expedition program. His writing on destinations all over the world has twice (1993 and 2001) been given gold medals in the Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism Competition sponsored by the Society of American Travel Writers. 4th Place – Stephanie Visser – “Lite and Water”

A native of southern Michigan, Stephanie Visser relocated to southern California. She took her degree in Fine Art from Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids Michigan. She continued her education at Western Michigan University in the graduate department and at Pasadena College of Art and Design. Stephanie’s painting originally began with traditional representational work and has evolved to abstract over the intervening years. www.stephanievisser.com
5th Place – Jennifer Marshall – “Sea Spray and Showers”
My first love was horses. I studied and drew them from a very early age, and so my skills of observation, and drawing began to be developed. A deep love of the Australian bush where I grew up, soon manifested itself in my landscapes. Later a fascination with Australian history combined with love of the bush, horses and the country way of life, developed into painting aspects of that history. www.marshallfineart.com.au
Honorable Mention – Davide Agnelli – “Wales”
Davide is retired and living in Guernsey, UK and has recently the spent 3 ½ years travelling throughout Europe and mostly in France, Spain and Italy. Davide has always been a keen photographer and happy to photograph whatever catches his eye. He moved on from film to digital and has embraced the new technology. For 26 years, Jon has been the owner and operator of Image One Media in Fort Worth, TX, who specializes in photography, video production, and audio-visual presentations. Jon fell in love with photography at age 9, and has received numerous awards for his images.

Through layers of paint, ink, paper, images from current events and silkscreen, Mary Larsen creates worlds that, like a memory of a dream, are at once disorienting yet somehow familiar. By obscuring and revealing, each layer unfolds the narrative. There is balance through imbalance. The sublime power of nature, history and chance coalesce to unsettle and draw the viewer into a place that could only exist in the mind. Megan Levacy is a mixed media painter from Johnson City, TN. Her works explore themes of identity and place. Levacy has an MFA in painting from East Tennessee State University University and an MA in painting and BFA in photography and printmaking at Arkansas State University. Levacy is currently teaching as an Instructor at East Tennessee State University.
