All winning artists will now be featured on the Light Space & Time website for the month of November 2013 and thereafter, the artworks and links to the artist’s websites will remain online in the Light Space & Time Archives. 1st Place – Sallie-Anne Swift – “Disturbance”
Sallie-Anne Swift, originally from Australia, is an international award winning artist has been creating art ever since she was a young child. She moved to Long Beach, California in 2008 and now draws inspiration from her surrounding environment, the ocean, nature, the desert and its weather.
Sallie-Anne has a degree in Graphic Design and has worked, lectured and consulted as a graphic designer for many years but is now dedicated to painting full time. For many years the artist painted realism and used only oils, pastel and pencil but since moving to the United States she has discovered her love for abstract and now enjoys using acrylic and mixed media to create bold textures that are balanced with a sense of harmony and that often reflect her humorous side.
Her new work is 2 dimensional and is created using layers that start with canvas and are finished with painted acrylic panels. This unique idea has been 3 years in the making and finally the artist has been able to put it all together and create these new “Avant-Garde” pieces.
She has exhibited in shows and been represented with galleries in Australia and the USA. She has won distinctive International awards and been a juror for the online Bold Brush International Art Competition. 2nd Place – Christina Del Sol – “Cosmic Dancer”
Cristina Del Sol is a Canadian Mixed Media and Experimental Visual Artist, creating Abstract/Non-Objective, Contemporary Landscapes and a variety of small works.
She was born in Argentina, where she received formal art training from the National Art Institute, Buenos Aires, Argentina, completing her Bachelor of Fine Art Honour’s Degree.
She has been exhibiting her work in galleries, private showings as well as solo and juried art shows winning several awards. 3rd Place – Overall – Danielle Austen – “Wisps”
Danielle Austen is a documentary fine art photographer based in New Jersey. She earned a BFA from Cornell Univ., worked as a graphic designer, then attended the Master’s journalism program at SU’s Newhouse School, and worked as a photojournalist. She now combines her skills to create her fine art imagery.
She has been published nationally, including “Life’s, Year in Pictures.” She has participated in more than two dozen national juried exhibits, a joint exhibit and will have a solo show of her Everglades project next year at the Everglades National Park.
“As a documentary fine art photographer trained both in journalism and the fine arts, I am bound to seek honesty in my subjects and to communicate the spirituality of the moment. My work focuses on documenting intimate portraits and unexpected views of the landscape… and to tell their story. 4th Place – Kathy Blankley Roman – “Aihwa”
Kathy has been drawing and painting ever since she can remember, taking courses here and there over the years. In her mid-years, she became proficient in calligraphy, which led to a stint in illustration. Her art took a new direction after her retirement when she took a course in expressive painting which has since become her passion.
Since late 2011 her expressive abstract work has been shown in juried and curated shows in the Greater Chicago Area and online including, among others: Woman Made Gallery, Morpho Gallery, Lillstreet Art Center, Northern Trust Bank and the Chicago Public Library. She was also featured in the well-received ebook “A Walk into Abstracts, Vol. 4” by Sue St. John, featuring the works of 48 contemporary abstract artists,
Roman’s acrylic and encaustic paintings emerge from a place deep inside and reflect a connection to the world around her. 5th Place – Barbara Corbett – “Iris”
Barbara Corbett is a Florida artist who has sold her creative work as an oil painter, water colorist, photographer and ceramic artist.
Barbara studied at the historic Pewabic Pottery in Detroit and had watercolor training in Florida. She is self-taught in photographic art and is inspired by all of nature and humanity.

6th Place – Overall – John Kumiski – “Moonset at Zion”
John Kumiski is a photographer specializing in the outdoors and travel. He enjoys the challenges of trying to capture the beauty, the subtleties, and the grandeur of nature.
John’s father owned a professional black and white photo-finishing lab, so he grew up around cameras, enlargers, film, paper, and chemistry. His first camera was a Kodak Vigilante. In some ways he misses silver. That having been said, once he got a digital SLR he never shot another frame with a film camera. With the exception of two photography classes, John is self-taught. He has been a photography teacher in several different settings- middle school, high school, and to adults.
Most of John’s work has been editorial in nature, with images appearing in hundreds of magazines. He has won many awards and prizes for his photography and his writing too. John lives in central Florida with his wife Susan and their two cats. http://www.johnkumiski.com
7th Place – Julian Wheat – “Labrador Bliss”
Julian Wheat is a lifetime world traveler and a totally self-taught artist who now works primarily in acrylics and also with colored pencils. At the present, he is perfecting pet portraiture’s but his specialty and love is in creating wildlife portraits. Recently, Julian stated this about his art, “My preferred subject is wildlife but I often venture to paint and draw other subjects that test my skills as an artist. Variety is the spice of life as they say, which is what I try apply to my art career. I seek to inspire my fellow artists, just as they inspire me to through their own artwork.”

8th Place – Cameron Limbrick – Dual Vision
Born in 1973 in Virginia, Cameron Limbrick is a self-taught American artist who has spent his entire life creating in a wide variety of media. Whether is from traditional painting and graphic design to video and music production, Cameron’s diverse artistic background ties together a solid foundation for his calling as a full time painter.
A mystic who experiences a metaphysical world, Cameron continuously draws inspiration from his out-of-body experiences, lucid dreams, paranormal insights, and spiritual understandings. 9th Place – Diane Shaw – “Tree Lines II”
Diane Shaw is an Associate Professor of Art at the University of Tennessee at Martin. Diane teaches upper level two-dimensional courses and in addition she also teaches Art Education.
She is a professional painter whose work has appeared at all levels of exhibition and in numerous art publications. She received her MFA degree from the University of Memphis with primary concentrations in painting and contemporary and modern art history.

10th Place – Susan Oakes – “Maple Leaf”
Susan Oakes is a freelance graphic artist and art instructor who draws from a diverse background of psychology (B.A.), business, (management) art and technology. She has taught art at Briarcliffe College in NY, as well as Palm Beach State College and the School District of Palm Beach County in addition to many private students.
Susan states this about her artistic career, “Having never been a person with merely one goal, one purpose, I have traveled a multifaceted educational and vocational road which continues to enlighten and reveal lifelong purpose. Through my work and teaching, I aim to show that art and technology are not antagonistic, but can coexist and should be used to enhance each other in new and exciting ways.
