The Overall Winning Artists Category consists of the 10 Best Entries received from the 2 media categories of the Painting & Other Category and the Photography & Digital Category.

All winners will now be featured on the Light Space & Time website for the month of October 2012 and thereafter, the artworks and links to the artist’s websites will remain online in the Light Space & Time Archives. Congratulations to our artists who made our “Open” Art Exhibition so successful this month. At any time, we invite our winners and other interested visitors to link their websites to the Gallery’s archive page for further ongoing promotion.

1st Place – Fran Friday – “Faces of Freedom”

Fran Friday is a New York based artist whose art runs from representational to abstract. She uses mixed media, acrylics and fabric sculpture when creating her art. Fran states this about her art, “I’m attracted to the different surface textures one can achieve with fabric, gesso, gels, pastes, and I like experimenting with different techniques. My color schemes are usually bright hues unless the concept dictates otherwise. Sometimes my work is spontaneous, and other times I must reflect deeply before beginning.”

She goes on to say, “as a passionate, emotional, sometimes political painter, I’m often moved by a scene, an image, photograph, memory or deep feeling from which I develop my concepts. www.franfriday.com

2nd Place – Peter Laughton – “Distant Mountains”

Peter Laughton is lives and creates in Massachusetts and has been involved in Fine Art and Design for the last thirty-three years after completing his graduate studies, as well as teaching at the University level.

Peter states, “ever since my first mixed media painting in 1978, I have been experimenting with many different, nontraditional approaches. The ‘diversity’ of mixed media has allowed the most flexibility and range of expression. However, oil painting has become my most challenging and satisfying medium. By incorporating lessons learned from each medium (including digital), my approach is always to explore different methods and techniques to achieve an ethereal balance between subject, light and color. In my current work, I seek to solicit a calming emotional response to images drawn from my imagination forever inspired by the incredible world around me.”

3rd Place – Cynthia Fleury – “Found Still Life”

Cynthia Fleury is a Minnesota photographic artist. Her passion is experimental photography and creative processes and techniques such as infrared photography, light painting, digital hand coloring, HDR, and creative techniques. She has studied art and over the years has painted in acrylic, oil and watercolor. Her interest in photography as an art form began in 1998 when she studied photography at Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Her digital artistry began in 2004 when digital image capture became a more viable art form than traditional film photography. In a sense, the camera has replaced the paintbrush and the photograph the canvas.

Cynthia’s work has been in many exhibitions and is in collections throughout the world. Recent exhibitions include The Veridian Artists Gallery New York City, The Flow Art Space Minneapolis, World Photographic Gala Awards (WPGA) in Buenos Aires, Los Angeles Center for Digital Arts (LACDA) Electron Gallery, The Gallery Photographica San Francisco, and The Center for Fine Art Photography Colorado. www.cynthiafleury.com

4th Place – Donna McGee – “Poppies”

Donna is an Irish artist and the Irish landscape is a constant source of inspiration in her work. Donna says this about here art, “my aim is to try and capture the essence of this timeless beauty, both in traditional and abstract form. I work mainly in oils because I love its vibrancy and creamy texture. The play of light with shadows contrasted against dramatic skies, and rugged coastlines; leave me with a sense of well-being and harmony. Hopefully they also stimulate an enquiring response from the viewer.

5th Place – Rosie (Rodeorose) Udovicic – “a r i a”

Rosie Udovicic or ”Rodeorose” is a Melbourne, Australia based artist. Rosie states that she came to the world of photographic art serendipitously, in midlife, and enjoys most in finding ways through photography to connect with people, creatures and the world around her.

Rosie states that “this connection typically involves animals whose survival is under threat, people in candid moments, and with the places that I call home. My works depicting the sea and places on the shore are generally taken right by my homes, either in Melbourne, or way across the seas my second home in Dubrovnik.” http://www.bluecanvas.com/rodeorose

6th Place – Kajal Zaveri – “Autumn Hues”

Kajal Zaveri was born in India and is a 16 year resident of California. Kajal has an MBA degree but switched careers to being a fulltime artist 9 years ago.

Kajal states this about her current body of work, “…is largely inspired by nature, particularly the Californian landscape and is a celebration of its splendor and magnificence; this could be the limitless horizons or wide open landscapes, the beauty of the changing seasons, pretty wildflowers blooming proudly on the side of a busy road, the dreamy coastal towns dotted along the beautiful Pacific Ocean, or the mix of the natural and manmade energy, vibrancy and hustle of sunny San Francisco and many such wonderful, special encounters that I have on a daily basis and get to translate onto canvas.” http://kajalzaveri.crevado.com

7th Place – Jeff Grant – “Turimetta Wash”

Jeff Grant is a Sydney, Australian based landscape photographer who shares his time between the beaches of Sydney, and the Snowy Mountains. In his art he seeks simple and elegant compositions which express his love of the natural world.

Jeff states this about his art, “I, like many other photographers work in the margins between day and night waiting for that special moment when the true beauty of a location appears briefly. My work is from the heart, not grounded in rules of composition, or fine details of technique. I shoot seascapes often as they are readily accessible and other areas as time permits.” www.jeff-grant.com

8th Place – Michelle Bauer – “Patience”

Michelle is a freelance artist from Kentucky. She has a background and experience in Illustrator and Photoshop, but she loves creating her artwork by hand.

Michelle says this about her art, “there is something about an”original” art piece that is straight from the artists’ hand onto an illustration board. I love the fact that every artist has a “style”. 9th Place – Lewis Testa – “Faces of War”

Lewis Testa is a New York based artist who suffered a spinal stroke which paralyzed the entire right side of his body. Through many years of extensive physical therapy he has overcome this handicap to become a galleried artist.

Lewis had formal art training at the Art Students League of New York and now finds himself painting the destruction of war and poverty. He is a member of the Huntington Arts Council, Pastel Society of America, Salmagundi Club, American Artists Professional League, and the Art League of Long Island Art Students League of New York. www.lewistesta.com

10th Place – Donna Pacinelli – “Ex Moodscape”

Donna Pacinelli was born and raised in suburban Philadelphia and aspired to create art from an early age. She received a BFA in Painting from Tyler School of Art in 1978 and attended additional classes in Painting and Sculpture at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 1976.

Donna states, “my belief that there is a link between all things in nature continues to influence my artwork and daily life. When I am not painting, I spend my time outdoors, landscaping and gardening, which provide me with limitless opportunities for discovery. In painting I focus on the smallest areas of an object or space that best represents the essence of the whole while searching for symbolic images embedded in the natural forms that allude to more than just the subject at hand.
