“Nature” Art Exhibition – March 2013

“Nature” Art Exhibition – March 2013 post image

The art for the 3rd Annual “Nature” Art exhibition was chosen from the “Nature” Art Competition which the gallery conducted in February. For this competition, artists where asked to submit art which depicts the physical world and “Nature” was defined as, and considered to be anything that was not created by or has been substantially altered by man. Finals subjects were geographical matter, natural objects, wildlife and natural environments.

The submission process and competition for the artists began in the middle of January 2013 and concluded on February 24, 2013. We received 672 entries from 20 different countries from around the world, including the Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Japan, Italy, Netherlands, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Turkey and the United Kingdom. In addition, we received entries from 33 different states as well as the District of Columbia.

Due to the volume of entries we created three (3) media categories, in order to make the judging and the results fair. In addition, for this particular competition we have an Overall Winning Artists Category, which is the “best of the best” and consists of the best entries from the 3 media categories. The following are the categories that we created from the entries received; Mixed Media & Other, Painting and Photography. Each category has an explanation as to the specific media which makes up that category (see below).

Due to the volume and the outstanding quality of the entries received this month, we awarded our normal 1st through 5th places, 5 Honorable Mention awards and then a group of Special Recognition awards for each category mentioned above. The amount of Special Recognition awards is based on the volume and the quality for that particular media category. The Overall Winning Artists Category consists of what we considered to be the top ten winning entries from all 3 media categories.

This month we also included Special Merit awards. Special Merit awards are given for any art that we felt could easily be judged higher (and were) but due to the size constraints in each media category, this art was not included. Otherwise, any of the Special Merit art, in many cases, is interchangeable with the best art that we selected for the top tiers.

Any of the artists in the Special Recognition group could have easily been included in the upper rank of the winning entries in each category, as their art was also exceptional. In addition, most of the artists who were not chosen could have easily received Special Recognition awards, as their artwork was also outstanding. We hope that you will take the time to also enjoy their beautiful art work too. To view the artwork in each media category, click on the thumbnail image and that will take you to the Slide Show, which contains larger images. In order to leave the Slide Show at any time, just click on the large image in order to escape.

All winning entries will now be featured on the Light Space & Time website for the month of March 2013 and thereafter, the artworks and links to the artist’s websites will remain online in the Light Space & Time Archives.

Congratulations to our artists who made our 3rd Annual “Nature” Art Exhibition so successful this month. At any time, we invite our winning artists and other interested visitors to link their websites to the Gallery’s archive page for further ongoing promotion.
