1st Place – Laura Warburton – “Bouquet”
Laura is a Toronto based artist with an academic background in psychology and the human sciences. Whether her compositions are brushed, sprayed, carved, splattered, scraped or poured, the use of texture and abstraction provides an organic feel that encourages the viewer to linger and visually rove across the canvas.
Laura’s paintings are aptly termed” Loft Artwork”, as they are large in size, 4ft, abstract and provide a clean contemporary feel to any environment, including the raw feel of loft designed spaces. Her works are hanging in corporate and private collections throughout Canada, USA, UK and Europe. The 3rd season of HBO’s series HUNG also featured some of her work. www.loftartwork.com
2nd Place – Swarte Vulpescu Olaru – “Equilibrium”
Corina Olaru was born in Galati, Romania in 1977. She works predominantly in the medium of photography, but includes painting and drawing on a large scale in her artworks. Olaru completed with distinction at National University of Arts in Bucharest were she specialized herself in Graphic Arts. For 12 years she worked as commercial and fashion photographer for international and local lifestyle magazines.
After 12 years of experience as strategic planner and business consultant, Manuela Vulpescu decided to follow her dreams and dropped her former career in the favor of an artistic one. In 2011 she completed her studies at the Make-up Academy in Munich/Germany and started, together with Corina Olaru a series of personal art projects. As a cofounder of the SWARTE brand she is now working in designing the concepts of the art collections, builds up stories and transforms them into body art. www.sw-arte.com
3rd Place – Durga Garcia – “Absurd Life of Unicorn Wilda”
Durga Garcia is a published, International Award winning and Merited photographer of fine art images. She is a South Florida based freelance professional photographer of projects, portraits and art for artists. With several long term projects and books to her credit.
Durga brings a most uncommon background to her pictures, a past that has her living in many countries and across America, working as a racehorse trainer, steeplechase jockey, equine veterinary paramedic, certified art appraiser, yoga teacher and member of the U.S. International Pistol Team.
She has parlayed her years of experience as a certified art appraiser into a special talent for conveying those nuanced details. 4th Place – Elizabeth Burin – “Fall Festival”
Elizabeth Burin is a freelance artist working in Baltimore, Maryland. After a career as a medieval art historian and museum curator, she turned to painting in mid-life, earning a Certificate of Fine Arts from the Maryland Institute College of Art.
Her artistic inspiration derives from her travels and from nature’s infinite variety of forms and textures. She is fascinated by the expressive power of color, and she particularly enjoys watercolor painting for its fluidity and luminosity. 5th Place – Adrian Giuliani – “Alyssa”
Adrian Giuliani grew her passion for soft pastels at the Rhode Island School of Design. She has been exhibiting her work for the past ten years. Adrian has recently embarked on a new adventure, taking commissions for her Children’s Pastel Portrait business.
Adrian states this about her art, “My main goal is to create a piece of art that beautifully reflects your child. I strive to capture your child’s personality and emotion at that moment. Whether my medium is charcoal or pastel, I want my artwork to have energy and movement, to be alive. I do not want to simply duplicate a photograph. 6th Place – Cindy Hoppenrath – “Yosemite”
Cindy Hoppenrath is a gifted photographer from Wisconsin. Traveling with her husband, she has been to many of our National Parks. Her goal is to become a full time photographer.
Cindy’s photographic subjects vary from scenic, wildlife, still life, and most recently the daily life on a small farm. Whether in the backyard wildflower garden, standing on the shore of a quiet Wisconsin lake, or on a mountain out west, she enjoys capturing the beauty before her and relaying the feeling that inspired her to stop and photograph the scene. www.choppenrathphoto.com
7th Place – Janette Stiles – “Butterflies With Border”
Janette’s digital art is created using the layering capabilities in Adobe Photo Elements and Microsoft Publisher software. From her Digital Nature Series is “Digital Butterflies”, her very first attempt at digital art in 2004.
A travel poster, “Postcards from the Edge” recently won 2nd place in a local show. Her self-portrait, “Last of the Fresh Air Kiss”, shows me as a survivor and prepared to deal with whatever comes my way. www.stilescollection.com
8th Place – Monika Mori – “Cryin a River of Tears”
Monika was born in 1960 in Moedling, Austria and had formal trainings by Prof. Anneliese Beschorner. Monika Mori, known as the artist MOO, works with bold colors and strokes allowing free elements of drips and dashes to bisect her canvases. Her works are highly expressive, as she has always wanted the world to hear what she has to say, and these artistic communications embody her emotions, experiences and her delight at the interaction with color.
For Mori, color is liberating and she expresses these thoughts, “Only through art can one mediate the unspeakable, so this allows for a greater freedom within a work. It is a language unto itself and there is merit to all interpretations. The strength of her paintings reflects the strength of Mori herself, and the intensity of the message she has to convey. 9th Place – Laurie Campbell – “Bodhran Player”
Laurie Campbell is a fine art photographer based in Northern Ireland and since she first picked up a camera she has been dedicated to developing her photographic skills and her approach to this medium.
Someone once said “Photography does not provide a lens through which we see the world, but a mirror in which we see ourselves in that world”. Laurie states this about her art, “Photography excites and frustrates me in equal measure! It also inspires new beginnings”. She continues to develop her practice and has recently completed a Masters in Fine Art Photography at the University of Ulster. www.lcimages.co.uk
10th Place – Sally Tuttle – “Summer Storm Series”
Sally Tuttle is an artist living and working in the Monterey area of California. At this time Sally is working with acrylics and encaustics creating non-objective paintings and mixed media collage, she considers her current work to be influenced by her admiration of the American Abstraction Expressionists from the 1950’s. Sally received her BA in interior design with a focus on furniture design from Cornish Institute in Seattle. Soon after graduation Sally started painting and continued painting while working with clients on various interior design projects. During these years painting was done “as time permits” and Sally discovered that if you paint when time permits sometimes you do not paint at all.
In 2004 Sally took a painting workshop for inspiration and motivation and Sally has been painting regularly ever since. www.sallytuttle.com
