Our exhibition theme is “Abstracts”. The submission process and competition for the artists began in the middle of May and ended on June 28, 2011. We received 590 entries from 16 different countries from around the world, including the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Poland, Sweden, Netherlands, Croatia, Soviet Union, Australia, Singapore, France, Hungary, Amsterdam, Denmark, China and New Zealand. In addition, we had entries from 30 different states. We received a broad selection of media including, watercolors, oils, acrylics, collage, digital art, photography, mixed media, ink and pencils. Our show is representative of these different media and styles.
Due to the volume and the quality of the entries received this month we also included 60 artists who were chosen for Special Recognition. The artists in this group could have easily been included in the upper tier of our winners, as their art is exceptional. In addition, most of the artists who were not chosen could have easily received Special Recognition awards, as their art was also outstanding. We want to thank everyone for participating in this art competition. Just because your artwork was not selected is not a reflection on your artistic talents and skill. It takes a lot of courage and nerve to enter and expose yourself to this type of competition and you should be applauded for your efforts. Please do not give up entering art competitions and calls for art, as your art could have easily been chosen here too.
All winners will now be featured on the Light Space & Time website for the month of July 2011. Thereafter, the artworks and links to the artist’s websites will remain online in the Light Space & Time Archives. I bring my love of color and the excitement of movement into my abstracts as a means of exploring my surroundings and creating joyful spaces. Jenny Davis is an Australian artist, working from studio’s in Victoria Australia and Paris France, where she sometimes lives. As an artist, she enjoys working in many disciplines including: painting, sculpture, photography, installation, video, collage, recycled design, sound and virtual worlds. Jenny has shown her work in many countries, including Australia, Germany, Spain, France and USA. 3rd Place – Subodh Maheshwari – “Thinker”

Subodh Maheshwari was born in Aligarh Uttar Pradesh, North India. Highly individual in style, her works have been described as emotional, mysterious, personal and humorous. Subodh has participated in many shows nationally and internationally including the fourth Cosmopolitan Exhibition in the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. Among the numerous honors she has won is the Regional Fellowship Award at the University of Ca. Irvine, where she earned her Master of Fine Arts degree. www.subodhfineartstudio.com
4th Place – Evalynn Alu – “Interior”

Evalynn is a Californian who has always been interested in art from a very early age. She studied and graduated from Santa Ana Junior College and California State University Fullerton with a degree in art. Her interest in painting grew after working in many areas of art and now, abstract art has become a major part and expression of her artistic life. 5th Place – Laura Warburton – “A Different Perspective”

Brushing, carving, scraping and pouring various materials, gels and mediums on canvas aids in creating an organic textured feel that hopefully captures and holds the viewer’s eye. Painting and paintings are emotional to me. I believe that when you walk into a room and you notice the art on the walls… and you really want to” look” at it… then you are in front of a great a piece of art.
I had been painting part time since the mid 2000’s and the more I painted, the more I loved painting and felt the benefits of this creative outlet. Serendipitously my formal education in psychology/human sciences has been a great accompaniment to my work as an artist via the use and understanding of colour, flow, visual perception and human personality. www.laurawarburton.com

I reside in Fort Wayne, Indiana and I am a self-taught artist. I just began painting 2 years ago and began trying out new medias, textures, tools, etc… I have come very far in just a short time and love where my paintings are now. My paintings are on display at Northside Galleries. I really enjoy working with acrylics on canvas, the way the colors blend together and the drying time is nice too. I use several different tools to paint with and I usually find new tools to use just out of curiosity. Trying new techniques is the best advice I could give to another artist. Kristine Harper was born in Denmark and currently lives and works in Copenhagen. Her creative motivation, which forms the basis for her artistic expression, is based in the abstract and creative use of words derived from philosophical writings. Kristine’s academic background has its roots in Philosophy and Art history. Currently she teaches within the field of aesthetics.
